
Ian has a particular interest in upper limb surgery. He has also undertaken advanced training in paediatric and adult limb lengthening, and reconstruction surgery and performs these procedures as part of his orthopaedic practice.n
Ian completed his medical training in New Zealand, before heading overseas for further advanced training in Limb Reconstruction and Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery under Dror Paley and John Herzenberg, in the United States. An adult upper limb fellowship followed with Greg Bain in Adelaide, Australia. Ian brings a wide range of surgical experience to his practice and is passionate about delivering high-quality, personalised care to his patients.
He has recently taken a position as a consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon at Starship Hospital to provider tertiary Paediatric Limb reconstruction care for New Zealand and the Pacific, remaining a locum consultant at Tauranga Hospital.
Ian has been part of Grace Orthopaedic Centre since its inception and is currently the Chair of the Orthopaedic Services Limited Board.
He is a Chartered Member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors and is a Board member for Waipuna Hospice, President of the Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of NZ (POSNZ) and Secretary of the Australian and New Zealand Lim Reconstruction Society (ANZLRS).
Outside of Ian’s busy clinical schedule, he enjoys boating, fishing, diving, hiking and making the most of the incredible natural resources that New Zealand has to offer.
